Four brushes for blending and crease work

Real Techniques essential crease brush, Urban Decay Naked2 brush, Sigma E40 tapered blending brush, MAC 222.

The search for the perfect crease brush can be both long and hard, but when you find one you love then the struggle is worth it. It sounds dramatic, but a bad crease brush can be the root to a lot of frustration.

Now, I feel like crease brushes and how you like them are quite individual. For example, the MAC 222 brush is my favorite for blending shadow into the crease, but my friend finds it way too scratchy. I enjoy the tapered brush head and the way it works the shadow into the crease without getting it blotchy. The Sigma E40 is good for blending colours together, as well as washing colour all over the lid. A perfect “do it all” brush. The Urban Decay brush came with the Naked2 Palette and it’s double ended; one end is good for patting on shadow (although I use it for concealer) and the tapered side works great for blending – as long as you’re patient. LAstly we have the Real Techniques essential crease brush. I love using this for defining the crease, and I find that it’s the perfect brush for blending dark colours; it’s so small that it’s precise, but still very efficient.  What’s your favorite crease brush?

5 inspiring female bloggers

Some weekends ago I shared 5 blog posts for inspiration. I have also shared my top five beauty blogs in the past, but this Sunday’s top five is dedicated to the female bloggers that really should be read and admired.

1. The College Prepster

This girl, Carly Heitlinger, is one big inspiration. She writes inspiring and thought provoking thoughts, as well as share fashion and style tips. Most of all I enjoy her blog because she’s such a type A person – but still embraces all the ways failing and not doing well can actually be a positive force. I always turn to her blog for inspiration both for school, work and personal life.

2. A Beautiful Mess

This blog has been a favorite for years. Elsie Larson is sucha creative and hard working girl, sharing DYIs, interior tips and so much more. She always inspires me to make hand made cards, bake something new or spray paint, well, anything! I really think she stands for something big in the way she does it all, and more, herself. Also, her husband makes really good music.

3. Garance Doré

Everyone knows who Garance Doré is, and for good reason. This fabulous french lady is an awesome photographer, a great writer and she makes even better illustrations. I love how she puts so much personality in everything she makes, yet keeps her site strictly professional. Such an inspiration, and a great way to pop over to Paris for a split second.

4. Chapter Friday

I have mentioned Chapter Friday, and Yara, many times before. But this page really just sums up everything I enjoy. Great graphic design, impeccable style and inspiring content. If anything, Chapter Friday inspires me to create, and to keep creating.

5. Maxie McCoy

Maxie is, as mentioned in this post, such an important voice and she really puts her finger on a lot of things that keep me occupied – often in a bad way. Her recent post about “Sitting in your shit” really hit home, and her spin on the whole thing just brightened my day tons. I subscribe to her posts, so every so often they turn up in my email. And they always, always make me feel better or more positive about my day.

Saturday Obsession: messy plaited hair

So I know we’ve had braids or plaits in a earlier the Saturday Obsession post, but this time it’s not just the messy, side plait; it’s everything messy and plaited.

All these styles are varied and pretty in their own relaxed, but yet polished way. Does this even make sense? I don’t know, but I do know I really like these styles – and as always there are far more where this came from on the Saturday Obsession Pinterest Board. I think I enjoy plaits so much now, because I kind of always relate plaits to autumn and winter. It’s also a great way to keep your hair away from your face, and with the colder weather the static hair thing becomes a problem again. As I have previously mentioned, I love plaits for deep treating the hair with some oil, and for getting those nice waves as well. See, with plaits the possibilities are endless!

Beauty Craving: that handcreme they’re all talking about

So, not too many weeks ago Yara off of Chapter Friday wrote a little post about this handcreme. Then i saw a picture of it on Pinterest. And last week, I found it in a story by chance and tried it on. Now, if that isn’t the universe serving up a little miracle train prompting me to get my hands on this handcreme (yes, see what I did there?) then I don’t know what it is!

First of all, the smell is heaven! I never by handcremes without wearing them for some time, as you never know if they are the sink in kind or the greazeball, getting-all-over-your-phone-and-keyboard-kind. The L:A Bruket handcreme is the heavenly scented, I just have to have it kind. I have far too many handcremes laying around as I always pick them up in airports, but seriously. This baby has to be mine, especially as it’s heavily scented with sage, rosemary and lavender, it’s just perfect for fall.

The Bobbi Brown Lipstick

IMG_9599

So lately I’ve been trying to branch out and not opt for the nude or the my lips but better pick when choosing my lipsticks. I felt quite dearing when I bought my last Chanel shade (and still do, but love it every time I wear it). Recently I have tried to grow my love for the shades I already own, and one of these shades is the 22 Sandwash Pink from Bobbi Brown.

I mentioned this one in a post a good while back, but as I searched around my lip stash the other day I realized I haven’t worn this for a long time. One reason is that the Sandwash Pink is quite a red pink, and I often feel like the bluer shades go better with my skin. As I’m a warm skintone this throws me off, and I keep trying to make it work. The shade also bleeds a lot, so I have to pair it with a lip pencil. The NARS Bettina actually works good as a base colour for Sandwash Pink, both products being quite matte they stick well together. If you have any suggestions for what to pair this shade with, let me know!

Online Fave: The wedding where the Olsen sisters helped out

So, this summer stylist Molly Fishkin married producer and director Asher Levin in a dress by Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen. Of course it would be good. And it was, both the dress and the wedding. Fishkin’s godmother is Stevie Nicks, and she surprised everyone by singing “Landslide” during her speach. Hello, amazing. But back to the dress, and how the Olsen sisters helped out. VOGUE did a great piece on the wedding, but this slideshow from Refinery29 is just amazing. It has to be checked out, at least for the candid photo of Stevie Nicks, and the charming out-of-focus pictures of the party.

A favorite pick from the Naked 3 palette

IMG_9624I have a huge bbundleof love for the Urban Decay Naked Palettes. I have all three plus the Naked Basics, and I have never regretted purchasing them – even though they are quite pricy. I go on and of on which palette I use the most, and also which colours I prefer. These last couple of months however, I have been sticking to the Naked 3 Palette and three shadows from this little baby.

Burnout (the colour where the brush head is strategically placed) is a gorgeous red shimmery shade. I would never think of putting a red on my eyelid, but this one works amazingly with my eyecolour (an undefined shade of blue/green/grey). The shade next to that guy is Limit, a soft and cool brown. This is perfect for light definition, and works great with my third favorite; shade number seven from the right is Nooner. Quite similar to Limit but darker, it is a perfect crease colour as it creates a subtle, but defined look.

Mahogany Teakwood

Also known as the Abercrombie & Fitch scent. This scented candle from Bath&Bodyworks might be one of the most often spoken about scented candle among the American YouTube girls. It’s as dreamy as they say, but be warned, it smells like straight up male. It reminds me of the Voluspa Suede Blanc, only younger – if that explains it. The scent is quite heavy, and perfect for the colder weather. I ordered my Bath&Bodyworks candles on Ebay, and am tempted to order some of the autumn candles. If you have any recommendations, please share!

5 tips for those mornings when you just don’t have time

Such a long title, but such an important post. At least I feel quite calmed down, just by typing it up. Knowing you have five steps that will make those mornings kind of okay, even though you are stressed out of your mind. Here are five tips that can help you when you’re short on time in the morning.

1. Shower

Yes, I know, you’re short on time – but that also means that you have overslept and are feeling quite tired. Jump in the shover for a couple of minutes, to wash the sleep away. I mean that physically as well as mentally.

2. Have breakfast

Anything, if it’s just an apple or some cereal, will help you turn this stressful start into a good day. You need food, so if your choice is between food and caffeine I would suggest opting for the latter.

3. Comfortable attire

If you’re not the type of person who lays out your outfit the night before (I am, and it saves a lot of time and energy for these kind of days), go for something comfortable. This does not mean sweats, but a sweater you know you’ll feel cozy and relaxed in. This is also an option for you if you are the type of person who plan outfits, but the chosen outfit feels to tight/harsh/cold or alike. You’re stressed out, make yourself comfortable.

 4. A bare beauty minimum

Skip all the beauty steps you can. If you have time for moisturizer, blush, mascara and lipstick, that’s all you need. You can also save this part for the journey to work or school, if you travel by bus, train or subway. This also goes for hair, a top knot or pony tail is your best friend.

5. Apologize and move on

If you’re like me, then being late gives you major anxiety. If you end up being late because of you shortage of time, then just apologize and move on with your day. Most likely your classmates or co-workers will have forgotten about it at the end of the meeting or class, so you should try to forget it too. I know it’s hard, but when you get to where you’re suppose to be, you can pretend like this wasn’t one of those mornings.
